We offer in-home vet care services to pet parents that are busy, and may not have the time to take their pet to the vet, or have a large family with small children. We are about making your pets’ care accurate and convenient.
In-home pet care allows for easy delivery of pet medications and animal vaccinations.
We want your dog or cat to be as comfortable as possible. In-home pet care avoids anxious trips in the car, carsickness and interaction with other pets.
In the comfort of your own home, our veterinarians strive to minimize the discomfort of bloodwork tests, vaccinations and minor surgical procedures.
For our pet euthanasia patients, many parents want their pet to spend their last moments happy and at home, not in a vet’s office.
There are many ways that in-home vet care increases safety and minimizes unnecessary injury. Elderly pets that may have arthritis or other conditions limiting their mobility benefit from in-home pet care by not having to travel.
The in-home pet care process also allows for our veterinarian or vet technician to observe the home environment in order to make specific recommendations regarding pet behavioral counseling (i.e. where litter boxes should be located).
Our veterinarian travels with a registered vet technician at all times to provide any type of assistance needed to ensure pet comfort and safety.
Her inspiration to become a vet originated at Berea High School, as an influential teacher advised Dr. Smith to pursue a career that incorporated her love of science and compassion for animals.
Dr. Smith then earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology and a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) from The Ohio State University.
With over 10 years of veterinary experience, she created Smith House Calls to cater to the needs of pets in the Cleveland area. She has been a past President of The Cleveland Academy of Veterinary Medicine. She also owns Sandstone Animal Hospital in Berea and Emerald Animal Hospital in Cleveland.
Her love and compassion for animals began as a child growing up on a dairy farm. She began her career in the veterinary field sixteen years ago and is now a registered veterinary technician. She graduated valedictorian of her class at Stautzenberger College. She is active in animal rescue and has fostered and rehabilitated many animals over the years.
How It Works:
We can examine and treat sick or healthy pets on-site inside your home or even outside in your yard weather permitting. For intensive care or pet surgeries, we offer transportation services to our full service small animal veterinary hospital. We are not an emergency service. We schedule routine house calls every other Wednesday. Other weekdays can be accommodated on a case by case basis. Smith House Calls is affiliated with Emerald Animal Hospital and Sandstone Animal Hospital (previously Bagley Road Animal Hospital) so that you will have a place to bring your pet if there is an immediate need.
