We offer a wide variety of in-home veterinary/pet services, catering to the Berea, OH and surrounding areas. Our goal as veterinarians at Smith House Calls is to provide the best pet health care treatment options for a variety of health conditions. This may be as simple as administering pet medication to more involved care through our partners at Sandstone Animal Hospital.
To ensure that your pet is healthy and catch potential problems early, we offer comprehensive pet physicals. Due to the fact that pets age differently than we do, veterinarians recommend a pet checkup one to two times a year. Depending on your pet’s lifestyle, we may recommend vaccinations, a heartworm test, and a fecal sample examination. To address your pet’s hygiene and maintenance, we offer:
To address issues affecting your pet’s health, we conduct a diagnostic exam to pinpoint the cause of the problem. As pet issues can range from physical to behavioral, we offer a variety of treatment options and medications to improve overall health. During a diagnostic examination, we may recommend:
Routine vaccination builds immunity against bacterial and viral infections that can be difficult to treat. If not prevented by vaccination, these diseases can be life-threatening. The veterinarian can discuss vaccination schedules with you based on your individual pet’s lifestyle. All dogs and cats in Cuyahoga County are required to be vaccinated against rabies. We offer the following vaccines:
Wellness screening bloodwork can be performed on apparently healthy pets to obtain a baseline for your individual pet. Detecting disease before there are outward symptoms leads to early intervention, which can prolong your pet’s life. When your pet doesn’t feel well, bloodwork can help us identify the underlying problem.
Blood tests can be used to diagnose the following conditions:
Blood tests for pets are also used to monitor medication and their health side effects for long term medical care that addresses chronic conditions.
Heartworm is a deadly disease transmitted by mosquitoes. We recommend giving a pill or topical treatment once a month year round to help prevent heartworm. To correct a flea problem and protect your home and family, we offer flea medication and treatment options for your pet. Combination flea, tick and heartworm meds kill internal and external parasites that can carry disease (i.e. ticks and Lyme Disease). They can be effective against:
If a pet runs away, we worry about the uncertainty of their return and whether they are ok. Pet microchipping provides an additional way to identify your dog or cat if their collar falls off. The microchip is inserted quickly and painlessly between the shoulder blades. Within the microchip is a pet ID code and your contact information, so when scanned, your pet can be easily identified and returned home.
Through our partnership with Sandstone Animal Hospital, we offer a variety of routine surgeries. For example, pet neutering/spaying your pet can help with behavioral issues, population control and overall health. Additional surgeries offered include:
If your pet is in their last stage of life, or suffering from a serious illness, we offer peaceful pet euthanasia in the comfort of your home. Many pet parents prefer to conduct this service in their home, so their pet may pass on peacefully, in their favorite place.
The procedure is painless and simple. It begins with a sedative shot, and is followed with the injection shot. Within minutes, your pet is able to pass on in a relaxed and comforting manner.
We also offer pet cremation and burial services. Owners have the option of either common or private cremation. Common Cremation includes cremation with other pets, with the ashes buried together. Private Cremation includes cremation of one pet, with the ashes returned to the owner to be put in a pet urn, or buried.
For intensive care or pet surgeries, we offer transportation services to a full service small animal veterinary hospital. We are not an emergency service. We schedule routine house calls on Wednesdays. Sandstone or Emerald Animal Hospital will have the Smith House Calls’ patient records on file so that there will be continuity of care if you would like to schedule an appointment at either of these hospitals.
